
About the University:
New York University was founded in 1831; New York University is now one of the largest private universities in the United States. From a student body of 158 during NYU's very first semester, enrollment has grown to more than 40,000 students as on date. Students at NYU have an option to choose courses from the 18 schools and colleges at five major centers in Manhattan and in sites in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. Today, students come from every state in the union and from 133 foreign countries.
The center of NYU is its Washington Square campus in the heart of Greenwich Village. In addition to its Manhattan locations, the University is also formally affiliated to the Polytechnic Institute of NYU in Brooklyn, the second oldest school of engineering and technology in the country. Academics:
NYU initially consisted of fourteen professors and lecturers now currently there are more than 3,100 full-time faculty members whose research and teaching encompasses the humanities, the sciences, the social sciences; the law; medicine; business; education; the fine arts, studio art, the performing and cinematic arts; music; social work; public administration; the ancient world; and continuing and professional studies. With more than 2,500 courses offered the University awards more than 25 different degrees. Although overall the University is large, the individuals schools and colleges are small- to moderate-sized units—each with its own traditions, programs and faculty.

Library:
Great libraries are essential to great universities. They support and empower scholarship and research innovation. The NYU Libraries is a nine-library, 5.1 million-volume system that continually enhances its on-site and online services and resources for students and faculty and expands its research collections in all formats, from paper to electronic and multimedia. NYU Libraries provides students and faculty with access to the world’s scholarship and serves as a center for the University community’s intellectual life.

Campus Life:
NYU’s campus is literally without walls, drawing its spirit from a global city with an entrepreneurial bent, a diversity of human life, and resources that include some of the world’s most famous cultural institutions and most valued professional opportunities. Albeit untraditional, NYU’s primary campus is located in downtown Manhattan’s Greenwich Village and there’s no doubt that the neighborhood feels like a college community. Many of NYU’s academic and administrative buildings and freshman residence halls border Washington Square Park. The sidewalks are full of students on their way to class, and members of the NYU community fill the restaurants, shops, and other businesses. Both on campus and off, the people of NYU are directly involved in the day-to-day excitement, culture, and opportunity of the city that serves as a very real extension of NYU’s campus and classrooms.
On campus, NYU offers countless way to connect with other members of the University community. With over 400 student clubs and organizations, hundreds of sports and residence hall activities, guest lectures and film screenings, and city excursions and community service opportunities, students get involved with the University, with their college, in their residence hall, and most important, with each other.
Students and faculty have access to an exceptional range of facilities, services, residence halls, and dining locations. Academic facilities include nine libraries as well as dozens of specialized centers and institutes. Everyone has access to advanced computer resources and specialized offices that address almost every need—from medical attention to discount theatre tickets.
